No one wants to hear me whine about how hard it is looking for colleges, and whatever. But this is starting to piss me off.
I awoke this morning to find a note attatched to the computer. This always tends to piss me off a little bit. Apparently my mom started filling out an application for scholarships or something, and I'm supposed to finish the rest. That's fine and all...in fact I probably should have done the whole thing myself, but being the lazy bastard that I am, I probably would have never gotten around to it.
But then I got to the last part. "Describe in 100 words or less why college is important to young people today." To me this question is bullshit. The only thing it's looking for is to see who the most eloquent liar is.
The true reason college is important to today's youth: it's expected of us. Plain and simple. We were always told that if we don't go to college we'll end up "pumping gasoline or flipping burgers the rest of our life." Which sadly, is mostly true.
The most brilliant men of all time never attended a college, and for many of them the supposed opportunity probably didn't even exist. Apparently no one ever told these guys that they will never mean anything unless they go to college. Because it wasn't true.
Don't get me wrong. I do want to go to college and get an education, but only because it's expected of me. Back in the day, people just learned trades or whatever and that was expected of them. And they may not have learned what they wanted to do, but at least they didn't have to worry about all this superficial bullshit.
So yeah, go ahead and judge me all you want, and call me a whiner, or whatever. I don't really give a crap if you do. That's my honest opinion, and I just wanted to get that out there...to whoever cares enough to listen.
